Our Core Team
1. Karris Johnson
Karris is a 21 year old senior at the Universtiy of Louisiana at Lafayette where she is pursuing a degree in Middle School Education. She plans on graduating in May of 2009. In her free time she likes to be outside, read, do anything artistic, and spend time with her wonderful family. Her favorite thing about EDGE is definitely the kids. They are all funny and unique and add so much excitement to her life.
2. Georgette Richard
Georgette is the Coordinator of Religious Education for St. Joseph Parish in Rayne. She is a mother of one, Andria who has just recently graduated and is now a licensed Pharmacist. Georgette also sees the need being an Acadia Parish bus driver. She enjoys working with the youth because the Youth of today face so many challenges and with Christ in their lives, they will be the Church of tomorrow. She loves Edge because she loves the kids who keep her young and on her toes.
3. Cathy Chatelain
Hi, I am Cathy mother of three; Erin, Anthony, and Katherine. I joined the EDGE Core Team to help middle school children to survive the most trying time in their young lives, peer pressure, drugs, sex, smoking and so many other distrations changing their lives and turning them away from Church. The EDGE program is designed to keep the children learing and living the Chrisitan way, We have so many activities that can help, Final Exit, In Your Junior High Face, Abbeyfest, our spring retreat, and our trip for the year. Each Edge night is a learning experience and a fun way to teach your children. These children are worth giving my time for and saving one is the best reward.
4. Amanda Briggs
Amanda is 26 years old. She has recently moved here and wanted to serve in the Religious Education program so she got recruited to the EDGE program. She enjoys working with the Core Team and loves working with the kids.
5. Jed Toups
Jed is a twenty five year old business owner here in Rayne. When I’m not working, I really enjoy being outdoors, whether it’s hunting, going for a morning run, or spending time with my family. I really enjoy working with the EDGE because I truly believe it’s the perfect program for guys and girls of this age. I love the fact these kids actually want to come and learn about Jesus at their own free will, as apposed to being forced by there parents. (P.S……….. Don’t tell anyone, but sometimes I think I have more fun then they do.)
6. Heather Richard
My name is Heather and I am 27 years old. I’ve always wanted to be a teacher and I guess this is God’s way of fulfilling my dream. Last year I was only a helper for EDGE but now I am a small group leader for 7th grade. I am also a Kindergarten teacher for CMJ, a team member in the RCIA process and a volunteer at Joe’s Cafe.
7. Rikki Martin
Rikki is 27 years old and her job is her life! She is a 7th and 8th grade teacher at St. Ed. These children need more love than anyone else she knows. She is also a full time college student planning to teach math. She is in love with the Eucharist, St. Francis of Assisi, The Little Flower, and Pope John Paul II. Rikki says that if she’s not changing lives then her life is not full. She feels that being an imitator of Christ is the best way to do this.
8. Thomas Groth
Thomas is 21 years old. He is attending the National EMS Academy to become a Basic EMT. He enjoys working, hunting, fishing, playing video games, watching TV, learning about his faith and helping people grow in theirs, and spending time with family and friends. His favorite thing about EDGE is helping the youth to grow in faithfulness, understanding and respect in their faith.
9. Andrew Mire
Andrew is 21 years old. This is Andrew’s second year in EDGE and he enjoys working with the kids. He is a small group leader for the 7th grade. Andrew is attending college at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette.
